Major was the result of an unusual set of circmstances 13 years ago. His sire, an unknown but nicely bred yellow dog named Stephab Bobby came to us for some duck hunting training. Wayne and I were so impressed with this boy that we convinced his owner, a friend of ours, to track down his paperwork. Nelson was then put over Beereegan Bubbly Brook and she produced 3 yellow pups.
Major was one of those pups. Born in 1997, he went to Wayne's brother Graeme in Canberra as a trialling prospect. He and Graeme seemed to click and it wasn't long before Major moved through Novice and Restricted, into All Age and ultimately became a Retrieving Trial Champion.
Then, in October 2003 against the cream of Australia's retrieving trial gundogs, Major won the National Retrieving Championship and his name is now immortalised on the most presitigious of trophies available in Retrieving circles.
Wayne and I were delighted to witness his win that year, travelling to NSW to offer Graeme moral support. Little did we know we we were going to be there as Breeders of the Winning Dog, taking home our own trophy as Major's breeders. Graeme handled Major superbly over those three testing days and managed to bring it home when it counted most.
For a small kennel to produce a National winner is no mean feat and we feel justifiably proud to have done so!
Congratulations to Graeme for his sterling efforts in bringing out the very best in Major. His reputation as a top trainer/handler is undeniable. Major has been retired for a few years and is now enjoying his time as Graeme's trusted and most loyal companion.
